The co-star reveals a secret romance
The public confirmation process actually began back in 2011 when LaBeouf spoke with Details magazine. When the actor was asked directly about a potential hookup with Fox, he nodded in the affirmative. He explained how the intense environment of a movie set naturally blurred the lines between their professional and personal lives.
“Look, you’re on the set for six months, with someone who’s rooting to be attracted to you, and you’re rooting to be attracted to them,” LaBeouf said in the interview. “I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen.”
When the interviewer pushed further to ask if this relationship occurred while Fox was dating her future husband, Brian Austin Green, LaBeouf could not provide a clear answer. According to the magazine, he repeated the phrase “I don’t know, man. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know” twelve times in total before concluding with, “It was what it was.”
Fox addresses the television rumors
The topic resurfaced in 2018 during an episode of Watch What Happens Live. Host Andy Cohen asked Fox directly if the claims LaBeouf made during his 2011 interview were accurate. Rather than dodging the question, the actress decided to be completely open about the past.
“I mean, I would confirm that it was romantic…I love him, I have never been really quiet about that, I love him,” Fox told Cohen. When Cohen followed up by asking if the situation was strictly an on-set romance that ended once filming concluded, she simply replied, “Yeah.”
Fox starred in the first two installments of the franchise before leaving the series. Reports indicated that executive producer Steven Spielberg had her fired after she publicly compared director Michael Bay to Hitler. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley ultimately replaced her for the third movie.
Life moves on after the franchise
Both actors eventually moved on to separate high-profile relationships. Fox married Brian Austin Green in June 2010 when she was 24 years old. The couple had three children together named Noah Shannon, Bodhi Ransom, and Journey River Green, but they separated in 2020. Fox later dated Machine Gun Kelly and welcomed a fourth child.
LaBeouf married actress Mia Goth in 2016, but they filed for divorce two years later. The couple reconciled in 2022 and welcomed a child together. During their time together, LaBeouf praised Goth for supporting him during difficult personal struggles.
“She was present for me when I didn’t deserve to have anybody in my life, especially her… She gave me hope when I was really running on fumes,” LaBeouf noted. He added, “It’s the first time I ever really understood love, because I didn’t have nothing to give.”
The reconciliation did not last, and the couple broke up again in 2025.
